Description
The RB211 family of turbofans shares a three-shaft
layout, a design that results in a shorter and more
rigid engine which offers the best performance retention.
Rolls-Royce product development has improved the engine’s
efficiency and fuel consumption significantly since
it entered service. The improved RB211-524G/H-T has
the lowest mature fuel burn on the Boeing 747-400, through
the installation of the Trent high-pressure system.
The Trent combustor reduces NOx emissions by 40 per
cent, making the -524G/H-T the lowest NOx engine on
the Boeing 747-400. The RB211-524 is the only engine
on the Boeing 747-400 and 767-300 with the wide-chord
fan, a Rolls-Royce innovation which increases efficiency,
reduces noise and gives unrivalled protection against
foreign object damage.
The 524G/H offers full commonality and engine changeability
for a 747/767 mixed fleet. This results in lower spares
holdings and the lowest possible cost of ownership.
The -524G/H-T was cleared for use on the 767 early in
2001.
